From the Doge's Palace to the Palace of the Grand Masters Italy, Croatia, Montenegro and Malta aboard Le Ponant |
11 Days / 10 Nights • Aug. 9, 2010
|
 |
• The Dalmatian Coast: nature in all its breathtaking beauty, unique landscapes and an architectural heritage without equal.
• Magnificent Montenegro: cruising in the fjords and bays of Kotor.
• Le Ponant’s arrival in Valletta: an ancient port built by the Knights of the Order of Malta.
SIBENIK
The unspoiled beauty of this rugged coastline transforms Sibenik into a giant aquarium, registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Nearby, the waterfalls and national park of Krka await your visit.
SPLIT
This former imperial residence reveals all from the impressive fortified walls, towers, temples and palaces to the baths. A museum in itself, Split is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is home to Diocletian’s famous Palace.
HVAR
A mild sunny climate has earned Hvar the epithet “Croatia’s Madeira”, and is one of the most beautiful islands in the Adriatic. The old town cradled in the bay boasts many remarkable monuments such as the cathedral, a former arsenal and noble palaces, all bearing witness to a rich history influenced by Gothic and Renaissance art.
MILJET
One of the best kept secrets off the Croatian Coast, the island of Mljet is a delight. Legend has it that Poseidon blew Ulysses towards Mljet where he was enchanted by the nymph Calypso.
KORCULA
You will be charmed by the harmony which emerges from the old town of Korcula: the medieval architecture of white stone towers offers a stunning contrast to the orange-red roofs of the houses set against a limpid blue sea. For those who love old stonework, the alleyways, squares and palaces are a pleasure to behold.
DUBROVNIK
Known throughout the world as the Pearl of the Adriatic, the walled city of Dubrovnik built on a rock has preserved all its Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque monuments. Long considered as a rival to Venice, traces of its illustrious past are to be found throughout the city.
KOTOR
The lovely fortified town of Kotor is located at the end of a complex series of bays surrounded by limestone massifs in a magnificent region of Montenegro. An impressive city wall conceals the alleyways and palaces of a well preserved edieval centre which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
OTRANTO
Almost on the tip of the heel of Italy’s boot lies the peaceful town of Otranto. A Greek and Roman city, it was also one of the most important centres of Byzantine culture in the Middle Ages. Cradled in the curve of a natural bay of crystal clear water, this small borough is the perfect spot for lazing around or going for a swim.
TAORMINA
On the edge of Catania, Taormina stands out against the slopes of Mount Tauro in the heart of a picturesque and charming location. Its ancient Greek theatre offers a magnificent panorama with the majestic Mount Etna, its lava flows still smoking, in the background.
GOZO
Like its twin sister Camino, Gozo is part of the Maltese Archipelago. Known to locals as the “green island” Gozo has two facets: one wild and arid, the other gentle and tranquil with attractive sheltered coves for bathing.
