We have selected exceptional golf courses with a Sports Director who will supervise the competition.
For non-golfers, magnificent ports of call in the Mediterranean.
PORTOFERRAIO
The whole course winds its way between oak pines and eucalyptus. The scent in the air, the silence, the birds of Elba's Natural Park, the view of the gulf and also inland, makes it a frame for a game which presents itself interesting and at the same time committing. It is a nine-holes course with double starting ground, and measure 5,144 meters, par 68.(ladies and gents).
VIAREGGIO (ITALY)
Playing at Le Pavoniere is a good change for any level of golfer to measure their skills and at the same time have a great time. You can feel Arnold’s highly strategic inspiration, where hazards are very cleverly brought into play and his excellent knowledge of players of differing abilities. All the same, the less experienced players might suffer a little here anyway. Although rather flat, the course is subtle enough to be played and enjoyed often and the greens big enough to offer any number of different pin positions. 18 holes, 6137m, par 7269 designed in 1986 by Arnold Palmer.
PORTO ROTONDO (Sardinia)
Pevero is located in the chic Costa Smeralda region on the Italian island of Sardinia. In the late 1960’s the Aga Khan thought that the peninsula between the Bays of Cala di Volpe and Volpero on the east coast would be the ideal setting for the first golf course on the island. By 1972, his vision was realized when an 18-hole, 6717, Par 72 (ladies and gents) yard layout – designed by American golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, opened for play. Pevero is certainly one of Trent Jones finest and most daring designs and this dream, strategic course is set on the edge of the rugged, jagged coastline. On a clear day there are some glorious views across the turquoise sea to distance Corsica. The site is simply sumptuous, between tree-covered hills, a rocky coastline broken only by some splendid coves and a sea of ever changing colour. This layout is highly strategic,
yardage is a matter of relative importance and a good score calls for the virtuosity of a fine technician, at least to avoid the rocks.
BONIFACIO (Corsica)
On this privileged piece of land, Robert Trent Jones, Sr. has designed a masterpiece and surely one of its best courses ever. Robert Trent Jones Sr designed in 1990 this magnificent 18-hole course (6101m, par 72) which is partly on rocky scrubland (front 9 holes) and partly linked (back 9 holes). It is rated amongst France’s finest courses. Indeed, it has been ranked 6th best French golf course. The front nine holes are cleverly designed amidst natural local bush land and pine trees. These holes are challenging, especially with the obstacles in the forms of rocks, trees and terrain. The back nine link holes offer stunning views over the Mediterranean sea and the layout offer typical links terrain narrow undulating fairways, links bunkering and rocky spots. The Mediterranean weather added to this challenging course will test all golfers’ abilities. The course offers three signature holes: the 10th where your drive must carry the water; the 15th which has a cliff-top green; and,
the 16th which is one of the most stunning worldwide Par 5, according to the Golf Magazine.
CANNES
The Cannes-Mougins Golf Club provides all features you are expecting from a modern golf within an historical environment. Surely, there are golf clubs with a soul. As a matter of fact, this club was founded in 1923 and, in 1977, the course has been rebuilt for the current architecture (18 holes; par 72) designed by two golf architects, Peter Allis et Dave Thomas. This 6906 yards course is nestled in the heart of the Valmasque forest in a protected environment which is unique on the French Riviera. In the Valmasque forest, the course is crossed by a river, the Bouillide River. Indeed, a great course in a great environment. During 14 years, the Golf Country Club of Cannes-Mougins has organized the Cannes Open. This competition was the highlight on the European Tour and some winners’
names are very famous such as Jean Garaialde, Greg Norman, Severiano Ballesteros, and Ian Woosnam.
